Ahem. It is June. JUNE. My last post was in March. Oh, hey there! Good to see you, were you wondering where I'd disappeared to? So here's the scoop: I actually started a new job. It involved a complete pivot in my career path - I was in post-secondary education, and now I'm in HR consulting. Say what? It happened like this. I was not on a tenure track, and it was becoming quite clear that I will most likely never be on a tenure track. That sucks in and of itself, but something else started happening at the same time - fewer contracts were available for me to teach, which means less money. I hit a point where I was facing a situation where I could not teach enough to earn enough money to cover my expenses, and that was not expected to change for at least two more years. I was complaining about this to pretty much anyone who would listen. Just whining, really. Well. I didn't finish that sleeve in a day, but it was done the next day, and the sweater got seamed up and blocked, and I was able to put it on and take some pictures on deadline day, so I'll call that a pass. Media ban on FO shots until pattern release - nothing to see here for now . In the meantime, I am still plotting away on my shortie sock plan - I've settled on giving them FLK heels on the initial prototypes, and I've selected my yarn for the first pair and cast on last night. Imagine a progress shot here. The sock is upstairs and it's dark anyway. I have 36 g of yarn available to me. I started out with 100 g, so the full height socks consumed 67 g of yarn, or 33.5 g per sock. If it takes me 33.5 g to knit a full sock, then I should be okay with 18 g to knit a sock of roughly half the size of the full sock, right? Right?

K'done: Damson x Sewanee Shawlette

Does this make me a shawlette breeder? Pattern: a combination of Sewanee , by Beth Bradford, and Damson , by Ysolda Teague Yarn: The Unique Sheep Tinsel Toes , in Crush Needles: 3.5 mm / US 4 As you can see from the above photo, which is the only one I have, it smoothed out nicely with a blocking. I did try to get a couple of modelled shots, but my photo mojo is on the fritz today, and the two attempts were both consigned to the digital abyss, meaning I deleted them. Maybe I'll try again another day. As you can also see from the above photo, I did some hybridizing with this one, because I rather liked the lace on the Sewanee, but I had some doubts about a straight-up triangular shape - because, you see, I really like the Damson shape. So I stared at the Sewanee pattern for a bit, and figured I could change up the shaping and keep the lace. It took a bit of finagling.
